DSS Handbook Updated
Thank you to Kathy Hoffman for leading the revision of the NYSDSC Handbook for DSS Professionals. Originally developed in 2003, the updated version reflects the organization's move to a statewide organization and includes a section on emerging issues. You can download it from: NYSDSC Handbook for DSS Professionals (A comprehensive resource guide for NYS disability service providers; November 2007)
A successful two-day AHEAD E-Text Training was held June 18 and 19,2007 at Finger Lakes Community College. Many thanks to Norah Nolan-Cramer and other staff at FLCC for hosting and providing the space and computers. Thank you to Gaeir Dietrich, a training specialist from the High Tech Center Training Unit of the California Community Colleges and Khaki Wunderlich from TC3 for leading the workshop and sharing their expertise.
During the 2007 SUNY DSC meeting, the Constitution for the New York State Disability Services Council was ratified by a 63-0 vote of the SUNY DSC full membership. The SUNY DSC and the NYSDSC will co-exist until the November meeting, at which time the SUNY DSC will cease to exist (except in the hearts and minds of all those who worked so hard to make it the successful organization it was, and continues to be in the NYSDSC).
Four Sector Councils (CUNY, Independents, Proprietaries and SUNY) have been established. More information regarding sector membership and activities will be posted soon.
